The Petrel Data Link has been completely re-written for ODM version 3.6 and now provides a more seamless method of transferring data between ODM3 and Petrel.

Why use the Petrel Data Link?

ODM3 can act as a database, GIS, correlation and presentation front-end to Petrel, creating an extremely powerful, yet cost-effective workflow. Integrate, interpret and present using ODM3’s specialist tools, then transfer final picks to Petrel to begin modeling, or take picks into ODM3 from a Petrel model to quickly create a database from the Petrel model. This module can greatly save on the time and effort that can be involved in large file based import/export of data.

What's new in ODM version 3.6?

  • A single interface now handles both the import and export of data between ODM and Petrel.
  • The data link requires the appropriate projects to be open in Petrel and ODM and supports the 2-way transfer of well headers, wellpaths, picks and logs.
  • Surfaces/grids and polygons can also be imported from Petrel to ODM only.
  • Sessions can be saved, so that ODM remembers the configuration (well, pick and log matching) between ODM and Petrel.

How to access the Petrel Data Link

The Petrel Data Link is a separate module which must be activated in your ODM FLEX licence. The Data Link, which acts a bridge between the two programs, requires a separate installation and is specific to the version of Petrel you are using. Once this is set up the Petrel option will appear under the Import menu in ODM3.
